“Ok, I’m a sucker for Southern soul. He feels like all the obvious references, but for me a little reminiscent of …..dating myself now…..Grayson Hugh and Chris Whitley featured in a film, I suppose about 100 years ago, called Thelma & Louise. Good storytelling, takes its time, nurturing and soulful. At least I’m consistent! The world needs more nurturing for sure and the soul in this kid’s voice keeps it dirty but inviting. ”

““It all happened a couple of years ago and I remember it well. A friend (Thanks Brian!) told me to get to a local bar and hear this massive musical talent. I did as I was told and walked in the door to be stopped in my tracks. It was unique, impressive and just plain good. My jaw hit the floor. I was quickly dancing to the music and my eyes were locked on the stage for the entire show. Let’s put it this way…I eventually proposed marriage in a music review (which is strictly against professional rules!). In all seriousness, I was moved by the music and the artistic way Chris delivered it that night. He is original and that is hard to find.”This is all still true. Last night, included a room full of people singing back a song to him that has not even hit radio. Everyone knows and loves the music that much. Note to all music business professionals: There is absolutely NO REASON “Happy” is not a huge hit on the radio right now. And I leave Chris Nathan shows happy and moved”

“It’s a beautifully sunny day in London and one of the songs that dropped into our wooden inbox last night has put a swing in my step as I get ready to head to the nearest beer garden. It’s incredibly polished (almost too much so) but Sugarcane by Chris Nathan has really nice soul roots and reminds me a little of Jamie Lidell.”

“Chris Nathan’s track Sugarcane really impressed us with his laid back style that comes as no surprise, considering that he’s from Nashville. There’s some deep rock & roll and country roots here that really makes this track stand out.”

"My name is Kris Allen and I was on 'American Idol,'" Allen said to the crowd. Allen, along with opener Chris Nathan, played to a packed audience at the State Theatre last night. The show opened with Nathan, who performed a cover of Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind" and said he found certain aspects of State College particularly impressive. "You guys got some badass cupcakes here," Nathan said. "You're making me all fat." Nathan went on to play a few of his own songs, including "Sunshine and Alcohol" and "Sugar Cane," before the show's headliner came to the stage.
