“Legion X wins Georgia Music Award Story by Beverly Harvey Monday, June 17, 2013 Legion X lead singer Syd Howell, Jr., and his bandmates rocked the house and took home the award in the Best Metal Category at the second annual Georgia Music Awards ceremony Saturday, June 8. The Southern thrash metal band includes Jackson native Howell, former Jackson resident Kurtis Campbell on bass guitar, Jacob Groce on rhythm guitar, Chet Powell on lead guitar and drummer Jeremy Kidd. Legion X walked the red carpet, performed on stage and accepted their award at the GMA ceremony at The Buckhead Theater in Atlanta. This was the first year the GMA included a Best Metal Category. Other GMA categories honored and awarded at the ceremony included rhythm and blues, country, hip hop, rock, alternative and bluegrass. Winners were determined by a combination of fan votes and votes made by a panel of area music industry professionals.”
