Chelsea Shaye Hughes was born on April 6, 1992. A California native, Chelsea Shaye moved to Roseville when she was 11 years old. She has been singing since she can remember. It wasn't until high school, however, that her numerous musical extracurricular activities sparked a drive to become a lyricist and singer. Since then, Chelsea Shaye has found herself floating from garage band to garage band, fostering her own unique sound amongst her peers. Then something magical happened; she discovered open mic nights. Collaborating with her friend Barry Crider, she quickly became a featured artist at several venues. Since early 2011, Chelsea Shaye has been on her own, pushing herself to gain more control over her music, learning how to play guitar to compliment her singing in the process. She has been maintaining a Sacramento playing circuit ever since. Singing, poetry, and writing lyrics all flow together into create what Chelsea Shaye describes as passion. Chelsea Shaye's style is acoustic and fans often say her heart really shows in her music. Her lyrics are poetic as well as catchy. Chelsea Shaye's voice is described as too unique to compare to just one artist. However she has been likened to Cat Power, Feist, Missy Higgins, and Lisa Hannigan. Also, she has been complimented as the female version of Conor Oberst from Bright Eyes mainly for her lyrics and style. She has gained recognition for her unique voice, her relatable lyrics, and authentic, down to earth demeanor. Chelsea Shaye never thought of singing professionally until urged to pursue her talent by friends and fans. She now is in the process of recording her own CD and establishing a following in Sacramento County. You can catch Chelsea Shaye at local venues around the Sacramento and Placer counties. To keep up to date on where she is going to be, check out the calendar on her website, her facebook page, as well as her myspace profile. Chelsea Shaye's music will touch your soul, make you think, warm your heart, and sometimes make you teary-eyed. We look forward to sharing her talent with the area.
