Toronto performer Al St. Louis has started a great monthly open mic called Singers' Den, where singers can take the mic for one song each - it has to be a cover, which the crowd loves - I checked out the first one last month and said to myself, I definitely have to be there for the December edition! So, Thursday December 29th - Singers' Den at the Trane, 964 Bathurst Street (a couple of blocks north of Bloor - come early for dinner, the chefs are awesome!) - show starts at 8! Last time around I sang an old-school Janet Jackson song; I'm not sure yet what I want to bring this month ...

A rising trend in Toronto's music scene is that of the pay-to-play performance. Too many musicians are being shortchanged by promoters and having to pay just to get on stage and perform, but this time musicians are running the show. For our hard work and talent, we musicians should always be compensated, no matter how small the reward, and we should never have to pay to bare our souls and share our gifts. That's why Oh So Beautiful has created a platform designed to put the power of performance back into to the hands of the musicians. No promoters, just performers promoting each other and working together to create greater opportunities for themselves, because no one is just going to hand us success.
