Todd Terry, Kenny Dope + Lil Louie Vega (Maw) Zack Tomz, and Todd Edwards are a few of Hodges’ favorite producers. Drawn to the sounds of drum machines, Hodges began renting gear from local music stores until finally deciding on a E-MU SP 1200, a piece commonly used by Hip Hop producers since it’s arrival in 1987. Hard-hitting beats with deep grooves became the signature sound for Hodges – whether in the studio, on the dance floors; from local Toronto gigs, to the surrounding towns around Ontario and across Canada, Hodges was growing and coming into his own. Jason began releasing records with various Toronto labels getting his feet wet remixing and co-producing tracks with some of Canada’s talents. After many years of training and development, Hodges returned to the scene with a new energy and a new plan. As a part of the All World Entertainment (now Apt Entertainment) team of house DJ’s and producers, Hodges teamed up with DJ Sneak on co-productions and remix work for several notable and established artists. Hodges & Sneak (AKA ‘The Jizznackaz”) have collaborated on a number of Sneak’s projects and records for Magnetic Recordings, as well as Sneak’s imprint label Oomph Recordings. 2003 opened the floodgates for world travel and new music projects. Jason continued to build his profile; remixing artists like Freaks on MMF, Kaskade on OM, Sneak’s “Fix my Sink” on Magnetic, Cozy Creatures Oomph, Bosh, an EP for Swirl People on Aroma Records (Belgium), EP for Oomph Records (USA), EP for OAE Records (USA), Amenti Music, with many of his productions featured on several House of OM CD Series’ (Carter & Farina LIVE, DJ Sneak, Fred Everything) as well as Mark Farina AND Derrick Carter’s ‘Sessions’ for Ministry of Sound UK, respectively – all promising a steady and bright future for Canada’s best-kept secret. These last 2 and a half years have sent Jason across the globe, from Brazil to Belgium to Bulgaria, all the UK majors and exclusive Ministry of Sound events, Istanbul, Turkey, the Netherlands and over to Asia and Australia with the beautiful continent South Africa on the horizon. For those who know, the name Jason Hodges represents the technical craft he pours into every production, with highly anticipated tracks being played and praised by the likes of Mark Farina, DJ Heather, Derrick Carter, DJ Raoul, among other eminent House Music Pioneers around the world. Sneak on Hodges: “He’s the Kenny Dope of Toronto”. He has productively advanced into a solid house music trooper…” --- august 2006 http://www.facebook.com/HodgesTO http://www.twitter.com/JasonHodgesTO http://www.soundcloud.com/hodgizz ************************************************************** Metro Housing Authority: Hailing from New York City by way of Halifax, Nova Scotia, this flame throwing production team has started to create quite a buzz on the international House music scene. It all started on a fateful night in ‘96 when Tom experienced his first underground party. His love affair with house music was born. That night started a journey which created Bubble Productions (Wolfville, NS) and eventually lead him to managing “The Underground”, the staple rave venue in Halifax, until its final show in 2000. The next few years were spent working with The Deep Red Collective, keeping the underground alive in Halifax. Moving into the club scene as KNUCKLES Productions, Tom became the host of the “Friday Night Showcase” at Reflections Cabaret (2003-2005). Since then, he has been focusing on keeping the happy house music vibe alive, one show at a time, all over Canada and beyond (including SmartBar, Chicago IL). Known for dropping old school vocal house, lots of horns and sassy bass lines, Tom’s indisputable drive and natural talent has earned him his place amongst the best house jocks on the east coast. With the back ground of a jazz drummer, he embraces those roots in his music as a DJ, but it is his smiling face and dancing legs that make him such a great addition to any party. Notorious for dancing up a storm in the DJ booth, Tommy Knuckles fun energy and funky music will leave a smile on your face and your body begging for more. Year after year at Evolve, Mr. Knuckles set is always a crowd favorite and this year is sure to be no exception. See you on the dance floor! ************************************************************** Byrd: With Byrd’s House Music roots originating in Ottawa in the late 90’s, DJ Balu and Jamez had a profound effect on him when he heard their sound. Not long after that he began to study the craft of the DJ and develop his own unique sound. Upon his return to Halifax he paid close attention to the local boys who were causing quite a stir in those days of the giant raves and all-night dance parties. Sonny D, FunkDub, Cam, and Sean Keating all had an enormous effect on Byrd’s musical direction. His attraction to bangin, funky house and breaks developed into a style that feels like techno, sounds like house, and makes dancefloors swell from the moment he takes the stage to his final track. House, with the balls of techno is how he would describe his sound. Never adhering to the status quo, Byrd keeps his own council on what is “quality music” and what is not. His sets are full of underground, hard to find tracks that require an intelligent ear and an educated listener to fully appreciate. And his signature long, tight mixes run flawlessly for what seems like eternity. Byrd’s been playing all over Atlantic Canada during the past decade, gigging steadily all over Halifax, Moncton, and Saint John. He’s had past residencies at Reflections Cabaret and Mosaic where he was a BCN Saturday Night resident, playing underground hip hop, jazzy drum and bass, downbeats, old school funk and soul. His true love, however, will always be banging out that House Music for all the House Music lovers of Halifax. ************************************************************** Sean Keating: After nearly a decade and a half, Sean Keating has earned the respect of electronic music lovers, DJs, and promoters all over Atlantic Canada with his intelligent blend of deep house, tech house and progressive. A true technical perfectionist, Sean has elevated himself to a level rarely reached on the east coast. His outstanding programming skills are always backed up by flawless execution and have earned him a reputation as one of the most solid and consistent DJs around. Sean has become known as a big room DJ but don’t let that fact fool you, he plays to his setting better than anyone around. Whether it’s warming the floor up for a visiting headliner or tearing the roof off a club in peak time, he always delivers. With a sound that encompasses everything from deep mesmerizing house to uplifting big room progressive, he finds himself a uniquely qualified and sought after DJ. Since his humble beginnings in the mid 90s, Sean quickly became a driving force behind the progressive house scene on the east coast, having inspired many DJs with his sublime sound. He has held residencies in Halifax’s best clubs with the biggest and most successful production companies. He is living proof that an unwavering work ethic and constant professionalism are a formula for success. His experience and confidence in front of any crowd have allowed him to build one of the most impressive resumes in the country having played alongside such high profile, world class acts as Armin Van Buuren, Tiga, DJ Dan, John "Quivver" Graham, Sultan, Luke Fair, Max Graham, Danny Howells, Deep Dish and many more. Sean’s growth as a DJ culminated with a performance with Sasha in 2003 that remains as one of Halifax’s most enduring electronic music memories. More recently Sean was featured on John Digweed's hugely popular "Transitions" radio show in August of 2011 having won Digweed's Structures Two DJ Mix competition organized through Beatport, Bedrock, MixCloud and judged by Robert Babicz, King Unique, Oliver Lieb, Nick Muir and John Digweed himself. Just more proof that even some of the worlds most talented djs and producers recognize Sean's innate music sense and ability. http://www.seankeating.ca/ http://soundcloud.com/sean-keating http://mixcloud.com/sean-keating ************************************************************** Charife: One of Atlantic Canada’s Premier DJ’s who moved thousands of fans with his unique sound, playing at countless events across much of Canada; and opening for DJ’s such as Christopher Lawerence, Commander Tom, Micro, DJ Dan, Freedom, Aphrodite, John Kelly, Tiga, Yaz, and Dekoze to name a few...! charife is no stranger to the underground electronic music scene. From his introduction to the music at early age of five, charife began experimenting with movie soundtracks on an old turntable. Growing up with disco and Motown records, he appreciated a good funky beat, but longed for the soundtrack feel. After years of listening to musical influences such as the Art of Noise, Depeche Mode, New Order and the Future Sounds of London, he connecting with the Secret Music Club in the UK that offered test pressings of the sound that soon propelled him into the DJ spotlight. charife’s combinations of hard pounding beats, with funky rhymes and angelic sweeps produces a musical journey of epic proportions. Flawless mixing and the ability to read a crowd gained popularity in Antigonish, Charlottetown, PEI and New Brunswick. In 1998, he decided to make the move to Halifax and connected with the Halifax legend Murray Trider (Goodvibe Collective & the Playground) It wasn’t long before people took notice of this DJ as he started playing countless events in Halifax, building a strong progressive following around his new sound. In 1999, he made his mark by competing in the DJO’s coming 1st in the house techno, trance category. After this exposure, he began headlining shows in Atlantic Canada, and then across Canada playing Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver. Soon interest was growing in the US in Chicago and Detroit as well as Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; there seemed to be no stopping this DJ/Producers, but in 2001, he made a choice to leave the electronic music scene for personal reasons, but kept in the touch with many of his close DJ/Producer friends and acquaintances. Realizing his love was too strong for the music, he made a guest appearance at Sub-Rosa, and then later Underdog Productions invited him to play an event at Reflections. Now charife is fully experimenting with a new sound mixing his own production into his DJ sets, something he longed to do in the past, but the technology was not available. His new sound is unique both pounding and uplifting, “would you have expected anything less…” It a sound you will not find anywhere… "A true crowd pleaser and a hard act to follow!" ************************************************************** KDZ: Over the past few years, KDZ aka Kyle McCracken has earned himself a loyal fan-base and an enviable reputation amongst DJs. In the city of Halifax he’s famous for his facemelters and incredible stage presence. You wouldn’t know it from looking at him, but this man hits fucking HARD! He is the ultimate crowd puppeteer, capable of making even the stiffest square dance. To say the least, a KDZ show is satisfying - Fully equipped with an innate ability to gauge his audience, and give them exactly what they want, when they want it. His body is slender, his dreads are long, his bass is fat, and if you haven’t already seen him….well, you NEED to. **************************************************************
