Carl Dixon On Wednesday May 1 Carl will be appearing at Hugh’s Room. There he will of course perform his original music and the songs that have inspired him over his long and at times, turbulent musical career. He will also read excerpts from his new book, Strange Way to Live. Carl provides an evening of inspiration, entertainment and thoughtful comment about coming back from the brink, healing, reinventing yourself, and triumphing over a life-changing event. Many of you will know Carl Dixon from his days with Coney Hatch, April Wine and The Guess Who; three iconic Canadian rock bands whose music spans the generations. Carl seemed to have it all.In 2008 he had the glamorous rock and roll lifestyle, touring North America for years as the front man of The Guess Who, singing and playing the music of his generation to thousands of cheering fans each night. Carl’s professional high seemed boundless. One horrible day it all changed. While in Australia to record music, Carl was involved in a catastrophic head-on collision that turned his world upside down. Emergency crews and doctors thought he was a goner. Trauma unit surgeons somehow put Carl’s pieces back together again. However, no amount of surgery can rebuild a life. It seemed that nothing was ever going to be the same, but don’t underestimate the human spirit. Adversity doesn’t build character, it reveals character. Carl’s not here to preach but there are some things he thinks he should tell. The story and background are compelling. The insight into the human condition is personal yet universal.
