“Bill Champlin stopped by our San Francisco location, and sat down to chat on the comfy chair with our host. This is the video of the entire interview, a clip of which was featured as our July 11th Local Catch of the Week along with the song “Follow Your Heart.” The Sons of Champlin did a wonderful show at Rancho Nicasio Sunday, July 18th at the BBQ on the Lawn. Proprietor of the Bar and Restaurant at this old west town square, Bob Brown (Who also is the manager of Huey Lewis and The News) called it “the best show we’ve had here in thirteen years.” ”

“Bill’s newest release is the solo CD/DVD No Place Left To Fall. It was recorded at the Barber Shop Studios in Hopatcong, New Jersey for the DreamMakers music label. It was later released in Europe by Zink Music on Dec. 10, 2008. The U.S. release by DreamMakers was on Aug 4, 2009. In the words of drummer Billy Ward: “I became a Bill Champlin fan in the early seventies when he led what was, to me, a ground-breaking band, The Sons Of Champlin. He’s written and sung on probably over 400 hit songs; the later ones with the band Chicago. His organ playing has him ranked on most peoples “A” list and he plays the heck out of the guitar as well! He is one of the finest musicians I’ve ever gotten the privilege to play with.” Dennis Cook, in Jambase and Relix Magazine adds: “Age has done nothing to diminish his powers, and in fact, brings nuances to the material that a young cat just can’t muster.” ”

"This music is callin' me," said Champlin, whose new solo album "No Place Left to Fall" was released last week on the DreamMakers label. "I'm really looking forward to playing more intimate venues and hearing what fans think of the new music. I can't wait to spend some one-on-one time with my old and new fans!" Champlin has scheduled a string of concerts along the West Coast in November to promote the new album.

June 1-2, 2010”

"I'm just a guy who's pulled along by music. If the music tells you to go here, I have a tendency to go here if I can. If you really play it right, you can really make the music cool."Looking back to the '70s, Champlin said the approach to making records used to be different."I think in those days, whatever you did was what you did ---- and then the record companies and marketing guys would wrap the campaign around you. Now they seem to wrap the artists around the already-existing campaign."I think the tail is kind of wagging the dog these days ---- it's not so much about stretching the music."Bill Champlin

Jim Trageser - North County Times

“At first glance, the title of Bill Champlin’s new solo album — “No Place Left to Fall” — rings an ominous bell. Did he finally hit rock bottom? Kick the bottle and find religion? Does this mean the same thing as “Been Down So Long It Looks Like Up To Me"? Quite the opposite. That would’ve been the case back in the early ’80s when Champlin was trolling Los Angeles as a session guy “going around with a couple of six-packs of beer, a bag full of blow, a couple of joints and a couple packs of cigarettes — hey, that should be enough to get through the first song.” An early disciple of Lou Rawls, the Tamalpais High grad lit up the Bay Area music scene in the late ’60s and ’70s with The Sons of Champlin, a freewheeling R&B and groove outfit that Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead once described as “the most talented of all the San Francisco bands.” These days, he’s getting back to his roots and reviving a solo career that’s been on hold for more than a decade.”

John Beck - Press Democrat

"He’s known the world over as the soulful singer/keyboardist of the iconic band Chicago. His featured vocal on the hit “Look Away” is among his mainstream highlights. But Bill’s defining work with the Sons of Champlin put him on the musical map long before he arrived in Chicago."

Greg Rule - Keyboard Magazine

"Champlin's voice is a true classic, one of those gifts from God, designed to get songs across in the way we need to hear them. Age has done nothing to diminish his powers, and in fact, brings nuances to the material that a young cat just can't muster."

Dennis Cook - Jam Base

"Bill Champlin, singer, guitarist and keyboard player, is best known as a member of the legendary band Chicago. He joined in 1981 before "Chicago 16". He's also written Grammy-winning songs. Back in 1965, he founded the Sons of Champlin, which carved out a reputation as a funky horn band."
