Bigfellas just released their first full-length album, ?Chubbed Up? which was nominated for 2009 Los Angeles Music Awards as ?Record Of The Year.? They?re often described as ?Steely Dan for the Pabst Blue Ribbon set.? A humorous band with their golf rap ?On The Green,? the Gershwin-Wainwright fueled ?I Wish That I Were Gay? and their often-absurd live shows, The Bigfellas love to display their playfulness, Faganesque irony, Police/Stones live energy, Ben Foldsian piano and Randy Newman-inspired songwriting throughout Chubbed Up?s 14-song, 62-minute schizophrenic fest, which includes '20s French pop, waltz and sonic noise. Their fans include Bruce Hornsby, Van Dyke Parks and Robert Christgau, but this KPFK public radio review maybe says it best: "I love how the melodies are so beautiful, but the content is a complete left turn from what you would expect to hear lyrically (with those particular melodies). It's like hearing Stevie Wonder playing keys and singing about "slappin' a bitch".. but it's still amazing!!" http://www.bigfellas.netwebsite:http://www.bigfellas.netMap & Directions Tags for this Event:Property > White Eagle
Bigfellas are returning to Guemes Island! Shay and Charlie aren't just blowing smoke up your dress, it's truly their favorite road gig anywhere. Hopefully weather will cooperate and we can all play and eat and drink outside. Even so, upstairs will be rocking too. Playing 5-8pm, come spend Saturday night with us!
Bigfellas coming back to Portland to play a great evening at McMeniman's White Eagle Saloon along with locals (and Bigfellas friends) Jokers & Jacks. If you aren't aware of the Bigfellas silliness with songs such as "I Wish That I Were Gay", try this: www.bigfellas.net
Bigfellas roadside at their usual playing perch, by the power plant on the coast highway. Great, great fun. An audience of 18,000 although they're all running by and just listening for 90 seconds at a time!
Sounds Like: Ben Folds, The Police, Randy Newman, They Might Be Giants, Steely Dan
Bio: From San Diego, The Bigfellas write and perform “smartass rock". Piano-based, but aggressively eclectic. Best known for their funnyish stuff like “I Wish That I Were Gay”, “4:20” and the world’s only golf rap, “On The Green,” all of which are on their late 2008 schizophrenic CD, Chubbed Up.
