SUNDAY RESIDENT SUNDAYS 6TH SEPT, OCT 4TH AND BEYOND, 7PM BARB JUNGR "Astute… simmering… intelligent." The Sunday Times "Peerless interpreter of contemporary song." Jazzwise "The only word to describe her dramatic interpretations is revelatory… I was open mouthed with astonishment." New York Times ★★★★ "A notable achievement." Daily Mirror "High Priestess of Cabaret" Time Out New York 6 Sept: STOCKPORT TO MEMPHIS. Barb performs the collection named for her love of soul music and her northern roots. Accompanied by Simon Wallace on piano and Davide Mantovani on bass, she sings many of her own compositions, whilst including songs by her favourites, including Dylan, Neil Young, Tom Waits. All About Jazz said; "Since her breakthrough Chanson: The Space in Between (Linn, 2000), vocalist Barb Jungr has mainly released albums of songs by other people... Successful as those albums have been, collectively they have shifted the spotlight from Jungr's own songwriting... On Stockport to Memphis, she tilts the balance back towards her compositions, while still featuring songs by her favorite songwriters. In the process, she has delivered an album that is more autobiographical and personal than any mentioned above. As this album demonstrates, she is maturing like fine wine." 4 Oct: LOVE ME TENDER. A stunning collection celebrating Elvis Presley's legacy. Barb appears with Jenny Carr on piano and Dudley Philips on double bass with this collection of completely refashioned Elvis Presley songs - on its release in 2005 it brought her huge acclaim and 4 and 5 star reviews across the world. Audacious and dark, Jungr reimagines the Deep South with her extraordinary arrangements of songs such as Love Me Tender and Kentucky Rain, In The Ghetto and Always on My Mind. ***PLEASE NOTE THAT BARB'S SHOWS ARE ALL DIFFERENT. DETAILS FOR EACH SHOW WILL GO UP ON THE WEBSITE CLOSER TO THE DATE.

AIN Barb Jungr - Hard Rain Barb Jungr - Hard Rain Saturday 12th, Doors 7pm, Show Start 8pm. Cabaret Seating The UK's finest interpreter of song, Barb Jungr returns to the songs of Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen with her album Hard Rain. Barb has been taking this wonderful collection of material on the road since February 2014. Over the past few years the British chanteuse has been wowing critics and audiences alike at home and abroad with her insightful, intelligent interpretations of well-loved songs combined with her powerful and often witty performance style. Barb's shows in NYC have now reached legendary status, with her latest season there completely selling out - don't miss one of Britain's best kept secrets live on her home turf. Often referred to as 'the politicised chansonnier' and cited as one of the world's best performers of Dylan's material, Barb turns to six of his most politically hard-hitting songs along with five of Leonard Cohen's most impassioned songs of conscience. Barb's selection for Hard Rain reflects her personal despair with the political times that we live in and she has deliberately chosen songs that resonate as strongly today as they did when they were originally written: Blowin' In The Wind is now 51 years old and its sentiments are as relevant today as they ever were. With our newly refurbished kitchen now fully operational we have teamed up with Scotty and Suzanne of the Deal Dining Club and are now delighted to be able to offer pre-theatre dinners before selected shows. Looks for the 'knife & fork' logo next to these events. Meals are served in our bar area from 5.30pm. Spaces are limited, so book your meal when you book your show ticket. A two course fixed price meal is £12.50 per person. To book your meal with your show select 'Dinner & Show' on the booking screen. Tickets £18

Home / Whats On / Music / Barb sept Barb Jungr - Love Me Tender 18th Sept Barb Jungr and her musicians return to the Rialto Brighton performing another of her classic shows. On September 18th she appears with Jenny Carr on piano with her collection of Elvis songs completely refashioned - on its release in 2005 it brought her huge acclaim and 4 and 5 star reviews across the world. Audacious and dark, Jungr re-imagined the Deep South with her extraordinary arrangements of songs such as Love Me Tender and Kentucky Rain, In The Ghetto and Always on My Mind. Arrangements by Adrian York and Jonathan Cooper were groundbreaking and, performed live, this collection is deeply arresting and beautiful. This autumn is the first time Barb will be singing this collection since she toured it in 2006. Unmissable. Barb Jungr has released 6 albums for Linn Records Label, including Just Like A Woman - Hymn to Nina (featuring the repertoire of Mina Simone) which brought her critical acclaim and rave reviews, and 2 albums for Naim label. Her most recently released CD on Kristalyn Records, Hard Rain, has won the Broadway World Award for Best Cabaret CD 2014, alongside garnering 4 and 5 star reviews worldwide. The Songs of Bob Dylan & Leonard Cohen Cabaret-chanteuse supreme Barb Jungr – think Liza Minnelli with extra class, from Rochdale – is one of the very few English performers to conquer Manhattan’s swish supper club and theatre scene, wowing audiences and critics with her vocal pyrotechnics and interpretative sass and style. Tonight’s show – the first at St George’s since her 2004 tribute to Elvis Presley, ‘Love Me Tender’ – takes on the mighty duo of Bob and Len, teasing out meanings from poetic lyrics that other singers can’t even guess at. barbjungr.com “Possibly our best interpreter of Dylan’s songs.” BILLY BRAGG
