“Rick Huff Reviews: Aspen Black “(From The) Heart Of A Cowgirl” Simple, direct and to the point. That sums up the new release from Aspen Black, who shows off her purely poetic side this time. ‘Hope I didn’t scare her away from using production elements with my review of her first release! Before each recitation she states the title of the upcoming poem and then goes for it. Some of the poems are quite brief (most are a minute or less), but what-the-hey! She gets said what she wants to say and stops. Why belabor the point?? There are twenty-eight of her works here. The ones she spends the most time with…“Kaleb To Myra 1886” (4:13) and “Finding Ivan” (3:58)…merit the attention, and yours for that matter. Judging from the content of her first two releases Aspen Black seems to have gifts to offer the genres of Western Music and Cowboy Poetry, and it will be interesting to discover what she comes up with next. CD: $12.95 thru www.cdbaby.com”
