This is will be my (Ash St. John) last proper show for a bit while I focus on recording my new album. I will be performing in a full band style so be prepared to rock out. I am sharing the night with MPLS band Moonmaster. Moonmaster will start off the night at 9pm with a set of 35 minutes or so. Then I will begin shortly after for the rest of the night. Let's celebrate the fleeting moments of October together! Ash St. John is a Twin Cities singer/songwriter/session player who brings a unique blend of competent musicianship to accessible melodic pop songs. He is often billed as the "musician's musician." With a full length album and 3 EP's behind him Ash is in preparation to record his second album this fall. "Songwriter Universe" awarded the song, "Witness to Greatness" with a first prize for songwriting in Nov. 2011. On this Wednesday night at the Aster Cafe; Ash will be celebrating the songs that earned positive attention while showcasing tunes making the cut off the spring 2014 release. Ash will be performing with his full band on acoustic and electric guitar while also mixing in some violin. Andy Keech and Al Bergstrom will back on drums and bass. His set will keep you engaged with sparse arrangements flourishing into an passionately charged power. Moonmaster is a 5-piece rock and roll band from Minneapolis with a mix of Folk Rock and Psychedelic Pop sounds that will steer your emotions to order your next drink. Emily Cline drops rhythmic bass lines and soaring harmonies that are punctuated by jazz infused rock beats from the kit of Nathan Whitley for a wall of groove to layer over guitar sounds and lap steel from Andy Holmaas. Billy Kezar adds bold harmonies while weaving his mandolin, keyboards, and guitars into the mix. Jonathan Cline intertwines the tangle of sound together with mustache smooth vocals melting over his harmonica and guitars. Moonmaster has actively been orbiting the planet via an asteroid studio working on 3 songs that will be launched beyond the galaxy in the coming months. Until then keep your eyes towards the moon.
Ash St. John opens the night at 8pm. American Scarecrows plays the rest of the evening.
My first Varsity Theater show! For those who don't know this might be one the coolest venues in the Cities. It is a beautiful room with awesome decor and excellent acoustics. This will be a seated candle-lit show. So romantic! Please join me on Sunday, October 21 at 6:00pm. Gabriel Douglas of 4onthefloor fame will play a solo set. I will then play a set with drums, bass and possibly another instruments. An American Scarecrows acoustic set will follow. Pat Brown (Sing it Loud) will headline the night. This show is a life changer for me and I sincerely hope you can share it with me!

“How does your music separate yourself from other artists and bands out there? I believe my music shows a certain maturity. I am hitting my stride in many ways. My songwriting has reached a running stride. The caliber of the vocals and the instrumentation is top notch. I play all the instruments besides a couple bass-lines and drum parts on all my music.”
