I grew up in the tiny town of Pilot Mountain, in the foothills of North Carolina. Music was always a staple in my house. I can't remember a time someone wasn't singing, banging away on an instrument, or turning the radio up too loud and getting yelled at by Mom. We danced in the living room to Otis Redding, cooked in the kitchen to the Eagles, and drove to church listening to Alison Krauss and Union Station.
When I was 13, I asked my Dad if he could teach me how to play 'Blackbird' on the guitar and it took me a while to learn it, but afterwards I had sufficiently caught the bug. Once I knew a few chords, I started writing my own songs. I mean don't get me wrong, they were really bad songs then, but for the record, that is when it started. I started playing at school, church, town festivals, and anywhere else someone would let me.
The short version of the next 8 years looks like this: I recorded an EP, I played a lot of shows, I went to college (Go Tar Heels!), I graduated, I released another EP, released a single, went on a radio tour, moved to Nashville, played a lot more shows, signed my first publishing deal and.......... here we are. Whew.
Now I get up every morning and write songs for a living, and on the weekends I travel to different little map dots playing those songs for you guys. Thank you for listening and allowing me to do what I love. It is a gift I don't take for granted. If you haven't yet, sign up for the email list to stay up to date on new music, and check out the Events section to see when I might be playing near you.
