K.J. Mitchell is brand new to the music scene, but certainly no stranger to the stage or music. K.J. has been singing since she was five, penning her own lyrics since ten, and fiddling with the guitar for what must appear to be a few weeks. She trained for a career in musical theater, but decided the life of an indie-rock star would be more appealing. Beyond her professional training, K.J. was raised listening to a mixture of classic rock and indie-folk that has infused her style both vocally and lyrically with an eclectic mixture of rock, folk, country, and pop.
K.J. specializes in popular cover songs to keep audiences entranced, but it’s her relatable lyrics and soulful originals that keep the pulse of the times. Her versatility and wide knowledge of covers helps bolster a high-energy performance that will have you clapping and singing along. Photographer, Benjamin Chertoff, has described her style as “post-Feminist angry Paul Simon” but others have seen the softer side, likening her to Jewel and Sarah McLachlan.
Available for any size audience or any size stage, K.J. is reliable, friendly, and a blast to see perform. Her powerful vocals and creative twists on old genres and songs help mold her unique sound to be both fresh and familiar.
