Slim White and The Averys are five musicians from diverse backgrounds and various influences, but they share a common dedication to the range of classic Country songs and sounds that have blazed the trail for America's own true music ever since The Carter Family were first recorded in Bristol, TN, in 1927. The band is disciplined and focused, with an emphasis on the tight arrangements and energetic stagecraft that characterized the transitional acts out of Bakersfield, CA, that prominently featured the bright sounds of the Telecaster, the pedal steel, and close, two part vocal harmonies.
Since their formation in 2008, The Averys have developed a live act that faithfully presents music from such legacy artists as Buck Owens, Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, The Carter Family, George Jones, Webb Pierce, and Gram Parsons, among others. Along the way, the band has written and skillfully arranged a growing catalogue of their own original songs that speak to the core Country themes of heartache, suffering and redemption, tempered with a good dose of full-on Honky Tonkin'.
In February, 2012, Slim White and The Averys released their debut record, “Greetings From Hangover Town”, featuring 8 original songs and an Averys live-set staple by The Carter Family. The record is issued as a handsomely packaged 4-song 7” 45 with digital download (for the hard-core Country fan) or download only for the iPod user.
Since the Autumn of 2009, Slim White and The Averys have produced the Ranch Party Round Up in Columbus, OH. A monthly live showcase that features the best of Central Ohio's American Roots musical acts, The Round Up is an opportunity for musicans and fans alike to gather, appreciate and help to preserve these vital original Country song forms and styles.
The Averys are Jake Cheshire, electric bass and vocals; Slim White, acoustic guitar and vocals; Seth Massing, lead guitar; Rich Tipple, pedal steel guitar; and Brady Oxender, drums.
