It takes a special temperament to navigate the black comedy of Gothic Americana and not come off as an overwrought boob. This is precisely what Terrence Moore does within the framework of Kansas City’s gloom dwelling American Catastrophe. While frontman Shaun Hamontree’s grisly bellow is a striking focal point, it’s Moore’s guitar, banjo, and harmonica touches that push AmCat songs from dark to haunted and terrifying. And the flourishes of horror are delivered with such a disarming genteel sophistication that you can believe Moore might, in fact, know sinister things.
A KC/Lawrence area music veteran, Moore’s career stretches back to The Black Water (hey, they were creepy too) and now includes solo excursions. Ladies and gentlemen, get to know Terrence Moore:
