The MIKE CUSATO BAND delivers infectious, high-energy alternative rock hooks that pull you in from the first few notes, make you move, and leave you wanting more. The band clearly enjoys themselves- from the hard hitting drummer, to the simple and sincere guitar work, to the melodic and edgy grooves woven with thoughtful lyrics delivered by the front man Cusato himself. Close your eyes and you’re reminiscent of your favorite chart-topping 90's rock and alt bands....but open your eyes and ears, for it is clear, they are here to rock now.
MCB formed in 2010 when a local Southern CT music group that Mike was a part of – the Thursday Night Music Club – inspired him to expand his solo acoustic act to a full band. Mike recruited the talents of Bill DeFazio on bass and Erik Mayville on drums, each of whom had considerable experience in alternative rock. The trio subsequently produced an interesting collection of alternative rock songs, drawing on a number of alternative, classic rock, and funk influences. A self-titled EP followed in 2011, as did a number of shows in a variety of venues, from the Alphabet Lounge in NYC to outdoor venues such as downtown Bridgeport and Stamford CT. In 2012, Bill left the band and Juan Carlos Vega, a veteran of the Connecticut music scene, joined. The band is in the process of recording additional tracks in preparation for release of a full-length album in 2013.
Mike Cusato – Lead vocals, guitar.
Mike was a founding member in 1999 and the primary songwriter of local original band BigBoned. He also comprises half of popular local acoustic duo Those 2 Guys, who gig all over the North East, and he also periodically joins noted CT musicians on stage in various musical endeavors (e.g., the philanthropic “Band Together” production). Mike has played in local CT bands since 1999, sharing stages with acts that include Third Eye Blind, The Smithereens and Darik & the Funbags, and has gigged across New York and New England.
Erik Mayville – Drums, vocals.
Erik began playing in bands at age 16 when he joined the punk rock group D-Vision based in his hometown of Reno, NV. With D-Vision, he recorded two albums on Positive Force records, toured the US, and shared the stage with several notable punk and alternative bands, including Circle Jerks, 7 Seconds, and Primus. He then played for the Reno-based band God’s Science Project, recording an album and opening for a number of national acts, including No Doubt, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and The Dead Milkmen.
Juan Carlos Vega – Bass guitar, vocals.
Juan began playing bass while attending the University of Connecticut, and he has been playing in bands in and around Fairfield County for almost fifteen years (e.g., Darian Cunning Band, Four Sticks – a Led Zeppelin cover band and three-time winner “Best Tribute Band” in Fairfield County Weekly, Pat Lattin Quartet, The Mercury Seed). He has traveled to Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., New York and New Jersey and as far as Puerto Rico, with Cosmic Jibaros, the Bridgeport based Latin-rock band with which he has been a key member for ten years. Juan’s influences vary far and wide and he can adapt to a myriad of different styles and genres.
