Fake Babies was born in the Spring of 2008 when Robert Nuzzello paired up with old friend Justin Roberts to create a sound to satisfy their desensitized taste buds. This resulted in blown out heavy bass beats, synths on acid, and layered soul vocals. The two piece played CT and NY while constantly writing and recording demos... molding the sound in their heads into songs that real people listen to.
In late 2009, the two Babies teamed up with fellow artists Gary Velush and Jason Siriani, continuing to play shows all over the Northeast down to Virginia. This brought on the attention of Fuzzy Rainbow Productions and Safety Meeting Records, who recorded and released the Fake Babies debut record “We Started Blues.” Along with a video premier on Alarm Magazine, a full page in Deli Magazine, and much online press, the most prominent was being voted best band in Connecticut by The Boston Phoenix and Myspace 50 Bands / 50 States contest. Off and moving again, Fake Babies shared the stage with Yeasayer, Light Asylum, Tune-Yards, These Are Powers, Nite Jewel, Kingdom (DJ), Suckers, Dead Meadow, Mates of State, We Are Scientists, The Stepkids, Mister Heavenly and Man Man.
The Fake Babies live/work warehouse space in New Haven, CT, dubbed The Submarine, was used as a DIY music venue hosting crowded dance parties and touring acts. As of now, walls have been built and foam has been added, creating a control room and sound booth... forming Submarine Studios. With an in house engineer, Fake Babies now have their own private recording studio to birth what they like to call Dirty Soul.
