Shannon was formed by Marcin Ruminski in 1994 in Olsztyn which lies in the North East of Poland.
From the moment of Shannon’s inception it has been a dynamic, constantly challenging journey allowing development in its form with both music style and band members. This inexorable change had one sole purpose and aim to allow Shannon to grow and establish itself amongst musicians of folk music within Poland and to be recognized in many European countries as well as around the world.
Shannon has been constantly striving to get a firm footing in the folk music world from the very beginning and in fact managed to achieve this goal by the new millennium, ten years ago.
Shannon often combined the core of Celtic music (Irish, Scottish and Brittany) as well as world music, rock, jazz and pop, which for many years has been an instantly recognizable characteristic of Shannon’s Style of music. Even though modified and a mixture of the above is always easily identifiable as belonging to the very essence of Shannon’s Music. It has been made possible mainly thanks to the band leader Marcin Ruminski whom has been directing the band ever since its formation in 1994.
Marcin apart from striving to develop and refine his ability to master Irish Whistles, for years Marcin has also been grabbing the audiences attention by using a special type of throat singing(from Tuva, Mongolia), which is rarely if ever combined with Celtic type of music. This is a unique and amazing solo performance Marcin often gives to the delight of a captivated audience.
Over the years the group’s musical portfolio has increased and at last count it had produced a total of 8 albums and created music for the film:
1409 Afera Na Zamku Bartenstein, SPI (Polish Film).
Also in collaboration with Polish band Ryczace 20-tki, Shannon produced a single.
The latest released CD is called ‘8th’ and was released in March 2013.
Since 2013 there also exists CELTIC RIVERS ORCHESTRA - the collaboration of Shannon with Elblag Chamber Orchestra , fully orchestrated by famous polish jazzman Zbgniew Namyslowski. This particular manifestation of the band performs club scene type music, using the material that as been created over the years by Shannon as well as performing covers from other bands.
Over the years they have played in many festivals the most recent being:

Shannon on occasion have also played with other famous musicians like world famous jazz saxophonist and composer – Zbigniew Namyslowski, and violinist - Michal Urbaniak.
Thanks to a mix of traditional instruments and modern composition, they offer a great sound. The appreciation of Shannons music can be seen through its appeal to a wide audience from the hardcore Irish music lover through to the novice.
The music Shannon performs will delight all, not only the audience seeking Irish sounds and you will be left endeared to the band through the energy and passion with which they play their music. Look out in a live performance to the bands techniques in playing different instruments to perfection.
