Music can be part of a person's life. For Ari Y. it IS his life.
Originally hailing from South Florida, Ari Y. always loved music, but didn’t get into hip hop until he was 17 years old. His mentor Rain H., saw potential and would use his lunch breaks to help Ari Y. perfect his flow. Despite his newfound appreciation for hip hop, Ari Y. mainly focused on playing rhythm guitar for defunct pop/punk band Nothing New and guitar/drums/vocals for the defunct alternative rock duo Evergreen Effect. It was in Evergreen Effect that Ari Y. wrote his first rap and would also spit the main verses on their acoustic backed song “Chilled Out”. Evergreen Effect continued after high school and a little during college, but eventually disbanded. Ari Y. started listening to more hip hop music and his appreciation for hip hop, then turned into a passion. Lacking the technology for beats, Ari Y. just wrote verses in notebooks and attempted to make them as cohesive as possible.
In 2005, Ari Y.’s quest for becoming an MC, was put on hold, as he met his future wife Bethy who lived in Newton, Massachusetts. In 2006, he moved up to Massachusetts to get married, find a “real job” and become part of “the real world”. After settling into his new life as a husband and Massachusetts resident, Ari Y. was able to purchase a MacBook Pro, which had Garageband; this was the opportunity to create beats (he would later on upgrade to Logic Express). As far as his verses were concerned, a fellow co-worker hip hop / rap lover, Jethro D., pushed Ari Y. to write better cohesive verses. Once Ari Y. impressed Jethro, he knew he was ready to lay some tracks down.
On August 8, 2010, Ari Y. entered Side Two Studio in South Boston with self-made beats, and recorded vocals that resulted in a 4 demo. Ari Y. burned copies and circulated the demo around with a ton of positive results. Wanting to expand, he opened a Reverbnation account, and submitted songs to various websites. This has led to 3 live shows (2 in Boston, 1 in New York City) and his song “Who I Be” featured on "Coast2Coast & DJ Smoke Present The Showcase Vol. 166."at http://www.coast2coastmixtapedjs.com/mixtapes/mixtapedetail.aspx/the-showcase-vol-166-mixtape-36-of-50
He also self-released his first album “Overcome” on September 25, 2011. All tracks were recorded & mixed by Ryan Abbott at Side Two Studio in Boston, MA.
