Weaving soulful melodies with the roots of old school blues and jazz, Jess Langer brings a fresh flavor to the Louisville music community that packs houses at each show. Most recently opening for Grammy nominee Seth Glier, Langer has been blazing a trail through her hometown with several different projects that can be seen live weekly. Her musical pursuits range from performing with FutureMan of Bela Fleck & The Flecktones to recording with Shooter Jennings.
Jess Langer released her Debut Album This Far Down in August of 2010 while living in Nashville. The album showcases funky grooves and tribal percussion, heartfelt ballads laced with live string sections, piano and chilling harmonies. Authentic and raw, the heartfelt voice that pours out of her translates into an intensely compelling live performance. She harnesses both the attention and emotion of her audience with her gripping personal testimony that emerges through her lyrics. "Its a two way street. I get just as much from the audience as they get from me if not more. If I have touched one person with each performance, I'm a happy girl".
Langer never questioned what came naturally--singing. Growing up in several different states, one thing remained constant, her passion for music. When her family settled in Louisville, she began her classical vocal training which introduced her to the stage. She began traveling to sing the National Anthem around the country but urned for something more. At 18, Langer packed up and moved to Nashville in pursuit of the next thing. Shortly after, she was singing in blues showcases with soul singers from Muzik Mafia and Circle of Sound. She began co-writing with artists around Nashville and her music began to evolve into her sound, a simple yet complex acoustic soul. Jess called upon her 8 years of classical training, and combined with inspiration from 60s and 70s soul, dirty blues and folk rock, developed a remarkable style. In early 2011 she made the decision to return to her roots in KY to collaborate with the emerging scene she was hearing so much about. Immediately joining forces with the unwavering talent of former Arnett Hollow guitarist Dave Chandler, they wasted no time to form a full powerhouse band for live performances. Langer shows no signs of slowing down with upcoming performances opening for Uncle Cracker with JK Mabry and singing at Louisville's famous Brown Theater. Just recently Jess made a special appearance on WHAS Great Day Live which reached a viewership of over half a million people across the Kentucky and Indiana market. She has a plethora of new tunes on deck that will soon be recorded for her upcoming EP this summer.
