Formed in the spring of 2007 TORMENTER is a thrash metal machine from the false utopian city of Los Angeles, California. Not contempt with conformity their music is a unique blend of aggression and melodicism that shatters common thrash metal standards. Their hook-laden melodies, modern fringe, and progressive elements give them a sound seldom heard from their contemporaries. Sounds of brutality interwoven with harmonies that harkens back to metal greats like Iron Maiden, TORMENTER’s offering is one sure to please the ears of metal fans worldwide.
Through persistence and perseverance TORMENTER has cultivated a devoted following throughout the globe with 2 full-length albums and a 2013 EP. Eccentric live performances across the western United States have proven to be where TORMENTER shines brightest with their displays of raw energy and the ability to electrify the room. Whether it be with local favorites Exmortus, Warbringer, and Witchaven or national acts like Exodus, Morbid Angel, and Obituary, TORMENTER delivers every time.
The latest release from the band will prove to be their greatest achievement to date. With 10 tracks of unrelenting mayhem, PROPHETIC DECEIVER will infect the listener’s ear with its array of rhythmic tempo changes and memorable song writing. A sound not heard on previous releases TORMENTER shows they aren’t satisfied with sticking to the standard. PROPHETIC DECEIVER is dripping with aggression and intensity that will melt your brains!
“While the blend of modern production and a combination of harsher thrash tendencies with Bay Area melodies is not new to the genre, the lethal merging that Tormenter concocts with Prophetic Deceiver puts them on par with their highly regarded peers like Warbringer and Havok.”
- Matt Reifschneider, The Metal Observer
“Prophetic Deceiver is really a glorifying moment for Tormenter as they interwove complimentary genres to feed the appetites of the listeners.”
- Elizabeth Gore, Loud & Heavy
“Nowadays, the standard of thrash has changed. It’s not enough to play fast and wear flip caps anymore, unless you’d prefer to join the hordes of forgettable thrash metal. Tormenter however, is taking a step in the right direction with their new album, “Prophetic Deceiver.””
- Christian Redelsperger, Thrash Eaters
“The last couple of years have not been kind to thrash metal. While there have been some great releases, it appears the onslaught of thrash bands are either disappearing, slowing down, or just getting worse. With the exception of Hatchet’s “Dawn of the End”, there hasn’t been a release in the last couple of years that brought me back to 2008 when I heard Gama Bomb, Bonded By Blood, and Evile for the first time. Until now, that is. Tormenter is a band that has been around for a while, and while their prior work was definitely quite good, their new album, “Prophetic Deceiver”, is propelling them to the thrash metal elite. This album brings together all of the elements that make a fantastic thrash record: impressive individual performances, variety, and most importantly, memorable songwriting. Although what Tormenter does is not fundamentally different from many other thrash bands, they add enough of their own personality to make this record unique.”
- Skull Fracturing Metal
“From what I can gather, there does not seem to be as many bands in the Thrash world, as in other spaces along the metal spectrum, in which bands are willing to be crazy-adventurous and break out of molds; they hold to a tried-and-true mantra, and they perform it spectacularly; fans of the music should not take this as a criticism or a negative. Along the way, however, bands like TORMENTER pop up; a Thrash band from LA, California. 2014 is the year of the third full-length, "Prophetic Deceiver". Take a gander; it will surprise, shock and rile you.”
- Daniel Fox, Metal Temple
“Energy stricken music with songs just dishing out pure unique thrash metal.”
- Soulgrinder Zine
