"Tell River is the musical and vocal brilliance that is Adam Diener from San Francisco, California" said Tiny Elvis in an album review. The years since have only enriched Adam's sensibilities. The current lineup of talented musicians include Timothy Leather (upright bass) and Steven Dodds (percussion) of the internationally touring band, The Pine Box Boys, and classically trained, multi-instrumentalist Randolph Charles (guitar, dobro and trumpet). Guests players include Possum Carvidi (banjo and accordion) and occasional (fiddle).
Leather and Dodds, having worked together for more than a decade, hold the rhythm section with an intuitive brilliance. Leather's effortless and stoic precision combined with Dodds' innovative and energetic style provide the backbone to Adam’s songwriting and Randy’s versatile fluency
Influenced by some of the best story tellers in music history, including: Elliot Smith, Lucero, Drive By Truckers, Johnny Cash, Neutral Milk Hotel, Tom Waits and Neil Young, Tell River delivers the sophistication and dynamics of classical music while maintaining a singular and current sound that is almost impossible to categorize. Their lyrics flirt with the guts of poetry that tackle classic emotional themes with a fresh perspective. When asked, Adam explains Tell River’s song content to "beautiful headaches, liberating heartaches, razor sharp truth, immovable passion, guttural appreciation and reluctant acceptance." Full and dynamic, Tell River is sometimes danceable and always engaging.
The newest album, Rusted Nail, released in Dec 2014, represents the wide range of their musical dexterity. From soulful rock ballads to rocking Americana singles, this album charts the journey of love, loss and redemption.
