NEW YORK JAZZ REPERTORY ENSEMBLE - is a non-profit organization composed of professional musicians dedicated to the recreation of classic jazz performances as well as the creation of new works in Jazz, Funk and Latin Jazz. Founded in 1997 by musical director Bill Warfield, the group made it's debut at the inaugural season of the Zoellner Arts Center at Lehigh University. The first concert, "Le Jazz Hot" with guest artist Dave Liebman, took place in October of that year in Baker Hall. Since then they have performed the music of Miles Davis ( Sketches of Spain and Porgy and Bess), Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman as well as tributes to the music of Led Zeppelin, Weather Report, Stevie Wonder and Herbie Hancock. In July 2000, Warfield and Liebman reprised "Le Jazz Hot" with the Paris Conservatory Jazz Orchestra at the Pierre Boulez concert hall in Paris during the Villette Festival to a sold-out house and standing ovation. The Paris concert was repeated in Denmark the following year. In 2007 Bill composed a Jazz/Classical piano concerto which was premiered in Arhus, Denmark by Danish pianist Mads Barentzen and the Kluvers Jazz Orchestra. The piece was performed for the first time in the US by Eugene Albulescu accompanied by the New York Jazz Octet.
