Soul Union is a powerfully innovative band that weaves elements of African, Caribbean, and American music together to create a unique new sound, coupled with truly inspirational lyrics. Founded in 2007 by Greg Fletcher (musical composer) and John Dutro (lyricist) Soul Union plays music that makes people think, listen, feel and most of all dance! Featuring many African Instruments such as the Ngoni, Kalimba and Djembe; Soul Union creates a rich and exotic musical landscape that will surely move you!
John Dutro is an amazing lyricist & poet; He has recorded and toured with bands such as Mystic Roots and Pyrx. Besides writing the first album of Soul Union, he also has two solo albums under his belt. John’s lyrics are truly revolutionary.
Greg Fletcher is a multi-instrumentalist who studied in Africa, as well as, plays many African traditional instruments such as, the Kalimba (thumb piano), Djembe, and Ngoni (8 and 10 string harp). Greg spent several years in the bush of Africa learning from many masters and now has created his own unique style. Greg’s most recent project was playing with master Congolese musician, Borrina Mapaka.
This band is a great example of the cross cultural collaboration to make alchemy of sounds that is truly "World Music"!
The Soul Union sound, taps into the ancient tribal instruments and African beats while blending them with modern sounds and lyrics to bridge time in music which will cause evolved living for all by bringing the organic style of music to connect from the original culture of Mankind to today's many forms of culture.
