dkWells started playing piano at the age of 5 and wrote his first song while watching President John F.Kennedy's funeral on black and white TV. He later took up the recorder, trombone, bass, electric and acoustic guitar. Guitar became his instrument of choice for composing and performing songs.
dkWells started college as a music major at Murray State University, and later earned a BA degree in Marketing & Communications. He owns his own advertising and marketing firm, production company, music publishing and record company and recently opened his own recording studio, The Studio @ Baker Street. He has played guitar in various bands and as a solo artist over the past 39 years. dkWells has written over 250 songs, and released his first solo album in 2010, titled "Open Heart - Open Mind", which blends a musical landscape inspired by his experience in surviving open-heart surgery, a broken back and his ongoing journey through life.
In September of this year, dkWells will release his much anticipated 2nd CD, Thank God for Thomas Edison, on his own label, Stormcrow Records. He states, "I was ready for a break from the heavy spiritual overtones of my first release, and challenged my song writing to be more fun and innovative. Of course, writing a majority of the songs during my encounter at my first Bonnaroo certainly added spice to my efforts. I'm very pleased with the results." Another first with the sophmore effort is collaberation with artists from Austin, Toronto, Brooklyn and the UK to help create the sonic landscape that is Thank God for Thomas Edison.
dkWells is currently playing his music live at select venues, and creating works for future albums. dkWells also works with other bands and artists in producing, promotion and management, and also launched a podcast titled, XPat Radio, which features up and coming British bands and artists who have little to no awareness currently in the States.
Both albums and individual songs are available on iTunes, CDBaby, Amazon, Google Play, Reverbnation and at dkwellsmusic.com.
