The band Pink Narcissus formed in the winter of 2008 in Brighton when newly located guitarist Paddy Longlegs urinated on the door of his then unfamiliar flatmate Cod Riverson.
The next day Paddy had no recollection of this episode where Cod was woken from his slumber by the sound of running water and shouted at the inebriated musician- “WHY ARE YOU PISSING ON MY DOOR!?” Paddy’s casual reply was “Sorry mate” -penis out, whilst continuing to drench the door and carpet.
As a means of compensation and diversion from the guilt he felt, Paddy asked Cod if he would be interested in playing bass in the band he was in the process of forming with ex Flesh Happening front-man Oli Spleen. The line-up and uniquely dynamic sound was completed in January 2009 when sixteen-year-old drummer Cookie Swallow got onboard. In their earliest gigs the then startlingly androgynous Cookie was constantly mistaken for a girl by lustful men who were later shocked to discover they were sexually enamoured of a sixteen-year-old boy.
Seeing as all four musicians came from different locations, backgrounds and influences, singer and lyricist Spleen thought their sound could potentially be more unique and honest if the four members would attempt to bring together all the elements of their far-reaching musical passions, however disparate they may seem. This was to be on the condition that the four members worked for the good of the songs, mixing the genres up rather than aping the sound or style of any one of their influences. They also decided to keep things fresh and interesting for themselves and their audience alike by never repeating stylistic ideas and constantly reinventing their sound which Paddy dubbed Freak Rock.
Though the songs may differ considerably from one track to the next, the PN sound is always uniquely Pink Narcissus. The sum of four individuals of different ages, backgrounds and styles who found a unity in their personal individuality, creating new forms from the old and breathing fresh life into the musical art-form.
In 2013 Paddy left Pink Narcissus and his close friend and producer of the band's EP "Blood On The Page" Liam McMillan took his place. Their latest single "Home" is the first with Liam. They are currently working on an EP called "Pig Miracle Day".
