DJ Shadow is a 31 year veteran in the music industry, is a native to the southside of Chicago, attending school at James H. Bowen High School.
In 1979, DJ Shadow developed an interest as a DJ when he tuned in to one of Chicago’s first radio Hot Mix show 102.7 FM, WBMX. He heard how disco and funk was mixed and remixed to create the birth of what is now considered House Music.
DJ Shadow began developing his skills in mixing and counting beats, and later began spinning at local house parties, and homecoming dances around the Chicagoland area.
Years later, Shadow began spinning in local clubs in Chicago, and networking with DJ’s i.e., Steve “Silk” Hurley, Farley Funkin’ Keith, and WGCI’s Music Director, DJ Lil Jon. After making a name for himself, he then switched to a different market where he was introduced to a new form of house music which catered more toward the Latin Market. He then began spinning with the likes of Bad Boy Bill, Tim Spinning Schommer, Julian Jumpin’ Perez, and Bobby D.
During this era of his career, he developed an appendage to his name as “Chicago’s Music Master”. He uses this name to show that he’s mastered a variety of music, and is able to blend these various genres smooth, and in most cases un-noticeable. Shadow’s versatility has labeled him as one of the few that’s able to spin a variety of genres together, and maintain a constant vibe on the dance floor.
When the time comes for DJ Shadow to perform, his main focus is giving the people what they want, and introducing new music with an exploding mix. Shadow considers himself to be more than a DJ, but more of an entertainer because of the way he interacts with the crowd, and hypes the crowd bringing the intensity higher from each track he plays.
Shadow now works in his studio developing new tracks, and remixes every day. He recently released his newest track house track titled “Another Groove”, which received rotational radio play on WKKC radio.
