Matt Parker and the Deacons / Bio

Recently playing their 2500th show, Matt Parker and the Deacons (artists formerly known as Psychward) are a funk-rock-soul-power-trio that is polished ,dynamic, diverse and capable of commanding any room or event with professionalism. Well known for their enormous set list, ability to improvise, humor, a true connection to the crowd and love for the music, Matt Parker and the Deacons are equally at home in a full band setting ( club, venue, festival, rally, wedding reception or original show at HOB etc..) as they are in the acoustic trio format, in which requests can be taken from a 200 plus song list, with new songs added every week. The original sound is a mix of bluesy alternative ,funk, and melodic rock with plenty of soul influences. Members are Matt Parker on guitar & lead Vocals. Matt has played just about everywhere in the US, some high points are; the Legendary C.B.G.B.'s in NYC, Blockbuster Pavilion now Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, opening for Bad Company and Ted Nuggent(2003) as well as extensive touring of N.C.,S.C. Many House of Blues dates and hard Rock Cafe summer contracts, Georgia and Florida..Rob Rotondo (former student of Victor Wooten and Coastal Carolina's own Steve Bailey on bass. James Poindexter is on the drums. Some band high points recently are 4 songs aired on Myrtle Beach's Fox 43's Not the News, 3 songs played on WKZQ Myrtle Beach Rock radio, opening for Ace Frehley, Poison and Molly Hatchet and more. MPD (Matt Parker and the Deacons) have played all over the southeast since forming 13 years ago and has has been playing all of the coveted waterfront gigs in and around the Grand Strand. (Little River, Murrells Inlet, and North Myrtle Beach as well as Myrtle Beach, as well as being a staple at 11 years of Bike Rallies.) Some other stand-outs are every Saturday at Myrtle Beach's Hard Rock cafe (2 summers) and multiple shows at the Myrtle Beach House of Blues as recently as October of 2013. P3's latest original release "traveling light" is available on CDbaby, Amazon, and at all shows. Matt Parker and the Deacons are now booking 2014-15 and in our spare time tracking our 3rd original cd, but first under the new name.
