The Folkadelics are anything but a folk band. Led by four-part vocal harmonies and wah-wah mandolin, they blend rock, reggae, hip-hop, and funk to create a unique sound and electrifying performances.
Sam Miller and Gavin Cummings formed the Folkadelics when they met at Ithaca College, and began performing locally as an acoustic duo. They moved to NYC after graduation and teamed up with vocalist Danielle Faraone, whose crooning has been compared to that of Gwen Stefani’s. Then after adding bass and drums to the recipe, the band finally had the funky backbone that it’s recognized for today. As of 2011, bass master Drew Kelly and hard-hitting drummer Tom Barraco are in the pocket driving the rhythmic machine beneath the band’s action-packed and exciting live performances.
In 2011, the Folkadelics began touring extensively. Their summer tour throughout the East Coast and Midwest included support for acts like Dark Star Orchestra, Rusted Root, EOTO, Vinny Amico (moe.), Yonder Mountain String Band, Keller Williams, and Girl Talk.
Currently the Folkadelics are finishing up a new album, and embarking on an even more extensive summer tour.
As journalist Marissa Devitto once stated about the band, “I dare you to try and sit still!”
