JonEmery & The Dry County Drinkers are Sacramento Valley's premiere Honky-Tonk Band. Blending the Country Music Sounds of yesteryear with the parlance of our time. JonEmery's song writing is influenced by the tongue in cheek lyrics of Jerry Reed & Hank Thompson while capturing the soul and sounds of mid-70's country like Johnny Paycheck & George Jones.
In 2004, JonEmery was diagnosed with Honky-Tonkitis after listening to The Two Dollar Pistols "Step Right Up" record, exclusively, for two weeks straight and hasn't looked back. Since then, he has soaked up the long lost icons of Country Music like Johnny Paycheck, Joe Stampley, Moe Bandy, Gary Stewart, Bobby Bare. He honed in on the classics of Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Hank Thompson, Jerry Reed and George Jones blending them with the Americana movement of Wilco, Ryan Adams, James McMurtry, Fred Eaglesmith and The Drive-By Truckers, and the 90's Country Greats Dwight Yoakam, Travis Tritt, Kentucky Headhunters and Alan Jackson.
In 2005 JonEmery started the CowPunk/Honky-Tonk group "JonEmery & The Heartbroken" in Sonoma County to rave reviews. Weaving the angst of heart break with the somber mood of a lonely drunk with songs "I Will Only Break Your Heart", "Bellied Up To The Bar", "Can't Blame Me" & "The Last Real Bar In California" dedicated to the long gone but not forgotten club The Black Cat in Penngrove. All was well, but after 4 years and a sudden (and serious) illness of gall stones, JonEmery found himself in Sacramento looking to fullfill the sickness that drives him, Honky-Tonk. In 2010 JonEmery teamed up with former members Ghosts Of Wyoming Jerry Lewis, Russell Ryan & Harley Lee Walker to begin what would be called "Dry County Drinkers" before being hopitalized.
Even after a near fatal experience with a gall stones surgery gone wrong and having spent a couple of months in the hospital, JonEmery and the newly formed, Dry County Drinkers pushed the boundaries and horizons of the Sacramento Local Country Music Scene performing countless shows from Sacramento to Seattle preparing for their debut EP, "If You Ain't Drunk..." unable to carry his gear and hopped up on percocet (prescribed for the pain).
Now being, how he describes, the only original member of the band he joined over 4 years ago, JonEmery & The Dry County Drinkers have met success by being paired up with some of the biggest names in Country Music like Ronnie Milsap, Commander Cody and David Allan Coe. Regional Heroes like Red Meat, The Pine Box Boys and Helllbound Glory. Independent Icons like Whitey Morgan & The 78's, Outlaw Bob Wayne & The Carnies and The Supersuckers and even Unlikely Successes like Josh Gracin, Moonshine Bandits and Alien Ant Farm. Dry County Drinkers, in their 4 year stint, have been nominated 5 Years in a row for Outstanding Alt Country/Country Band by local music recognition panel The SAMMIES, having their first nomination a mere 6 months after their upstart. They have released 3 Demo Albums which have been featured on multiple radio stations including KRSH The Krush, Silent Storm Radio.com, Honky Tonk Junkies.com, Highway 49 and Outlaw Country on Siruis Radio and JonEmery started the "Honky-Tonk 4 Hunger" movement - A Clothes, Canned Food & Cash Drive to help the homeless and the hungry in Yolo County & the Sacramento Valley, now in it's 3rd year.
JonEmery and The Dry County Drinkers is THAT band that gives back more than they receive with their community presence and public performance. Hailed as Sacramento's hardest working band, they have never left a crowd unfulfilled. Now they are ready to push the boundaries again, with their biggest and most ambitious project to date - a "proper" full length album with all of the bells and whistles of a 'professional" recording but done in Drinker Nation fashion!! Whiskey Or Bust!
Dry County Drinkers hit the scene in May of 2010 and have performed in every club they could between Sacramento Valley to Sonoma County, from San Francisco to Seattle to appreciative crowds on the West Coast ever since. Pairing up with Country Music Greats; David Allan Coe, Commander Cody, Reckless Kelly & Chuck Mead and Regional Country Music Icons; Red Meat, Hellbound Glory, Merle Jagger, Miss Lonely Hearts & The Pine Box Boys.
