Jenny Woods is a singer/songwriter who has performed for nearly 20 years in a variety of capacities from musical theater to children’s entertainment to solo and duo acoustic acts and full bands.
Although Jenny has been compared to artists such as Joni Mitchell, Norah Jones, and Gillian Welch, her vocal style is uniquely her own. Her voice has been described as powerful and soulful; “a voice made for blues”. Jenny uses her voice like a complex instrument with incredible range and versatility. But at the core of Jenny’s appeal are her intuitive musical sensibility and vocal honesty enhanced by her acoustic guitar accompaniment.
Jenny’s sound is influenced by Americana, bluegrass, folk revival, blues and classic rock with a touch of country. Her vocal expression, however, runs the gamut from captivating bluesy ballads to rockin’ sing-alongs to uniquely exquisite renditions of folk-rock classics.
Jenny is a storyteller whose original songs spin tales of encounters with friends, lovers, and fellow travelers on her wanderings around the country and through her life. According to Jenny, “Some of my songs start with the spark of an idea and emerge gradually, while others come out of the blue, appearing as a complete story about people or situations I’ve never known.”
Jenny has been making the rounds at the Jersey Shore playing such venues as The Twisted Tree and Espresso Joe’s, Val’s Tavern in Rumson, the Gazebo in Freehold, and in Downtown Red Bank as part of the “Red Bank Street Life” series. She has been interviewed on Dan Coleman’s “Rock On Radio” and enjoys performing with the local charity organization Holiday Express.
When Jenny is not performing, she can be found doing any number of things from writing new music, organizing the next event for Musicians on a Mission (see below), or working in her jewelry studio expressing yet another side of her creativity. Jenny’s other creative passion is making jewelry out of recycled guitar strings donated by local musicians. A portion of the proceeds are donated to Musicians On A Mission to help with operating costs. You can see her “High Strung” designs at www.GuitarStringJewelryNJ.com.
In November of 2010, Jenny Co-Founded an organization called Musicians on a Mission which is a realization of a dream to combine a passion for music with a passion for giving back to the community MOAM supports local music and local charities.
