With a debut album released, October 2010, Mr. Isaac Allen and his band perform In the New England – New York circuit, delivering soulful jazz and folk blues that is both eclectic and personal.
Jazzy and bluesy songs, always true in content, though not always comfortable, fit easily with the more reflective pieces. This range of style mimics the life of Mr. Isaac Allen, whose young life rambled between Borneo, SE Asia, and the northern US, and too many small cities in between. His deep baritone voice, hints of his early opera training, although a certain dissonance conveys a complex story. accompanying piano, a band of upright bass, trumpet, guitar and female backup vocals.
Deeply influenced by the soul of the Blues, I later came to appreciate the lyricism of Greg Brown, Tom Waits, and Randy Newman.
