Due to absolute commitment and steadfast determination, Pullman Standard is seeing the realization of their goals. This is only the beginning...
The long of it....
I guess you can say that the story of Pullman Standard started in March of 2006 with the beginning of a new perspective and a new attitude. Remember that in life, when one door shuts, another door opens. One should always recognize this as a good thing. Timmy D. a San Diego, CA native moved to Los Angeles, CA in search of a new start with his solo music career. He worked as an extra on movie sets and TV shows at the various studios around town and lived out of his old jeep cherokee to make ends meet. This is how he came to meet the future Pullman Standard (PS) guitarist Kevin Wolfe.
The song "the first dance" could be called the first Pullman Standard song, recorded on Timmy D's computer in his jeep in early 2007.
"I remember getting wrapped from working a nightclub scene at like two in the morning and pulling out of the parking structure at Warner Brothers Studios. I wasn't very tired and didn't know the LA area that well yet, so I drove around to a side street in the neighborhood behind WB studios and just sat in my car and demoed the song using my acoustic guitar..." Timmy D.
Soon four more songs were recorded and Timmy began performing them at open mic nights in the Hollywood area. Shaping the idea of what the musical foundation of PS would be. The name came about right before the first demo CD was finished "I love the 1900's turn of the century to 1940's style, the Pullman railcar company had much to do with travel, culture, and style"- Timmy D.
Although it wasn't the first choice the name stuck and was printed on the first demo cover in February 2008.
Over the next six months more demos were recorded, more shows were performed and two new members added. Bassist, Pianist, Harmonica, Trumpet, Accordion, Banjo player extraordinaire Austin Smith and Drummer Dale Peters.
Pullman Standard was announced the 2009 winner of the "Your Song for San Diego" contest sponsored by CW6, Citybeat, KPRI and 91X with the winning song, "Our Town."
the band was immediately asked to perform at many local fairs and festivals. Knowing that the band would need a another member to be able to perform the newer material live, Timmy D called up his friend Kevin Wolfe who immediately filled responsibilities as lead guitarist and keyboardist.
The next three years saw the release of two E.P.'s and was a blur of many long drives, long days, long nights and a nonstop motoring of over 300 high energy feel good performances throughout the United States. They went anywhere that would allow them to perform - Parks, High Schools, Colleges, Clubs, Bars, Pool Halls, All Ages Venues, Fairs, Festivals, Fashion Shows. A quick switch up in Drummers with the departure of Dale Peters and introduction of Luke Catandella in May of 2011. They performed at 2011 MTV Movie Awards "Vintage Themed" Gifting Lounge, as well as being hand picked out of 2,500 band to be a finalist in FORD motors Gimme the Gig 2 Web and TV series 2012.
The end of Summer 2012 saw the beginning of a new direction for the band with the departure of Luke Catandella (for personal reasons) and release of a new Album ("Steam Powered Hearts") . Pullman Standard enlisted the help of drummer Tyler Clark only three weeks before they hit the road on their most ambitious endeavor yet. A two month self booked tour across the wild west states, performing 52 shows in 60 days (California, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico) Mid September through early November. Although the band had toured though these states before, they had never been out on the road for more than three weeks at a time. After returning home the band immediately entered the studio and recorded three songs with Lady Gaga discoverer Wendy Starland and hit maker Mike "G" Gonsolin through the month of December. With more wind in their sails Pullman Standard hit the road at the very beginning of 2013 on their "Winter tour" (28 shows) January to February and "Spring Tour" (25 Shows) March into April. Returning home with even more energy and experience the band was gearing up for its next move when long time Lead Guitarist Kevin Wolfe decided that it was his time to go his separate way and persue new career paths. The band was not stifled but instead saw this as an opportunity to move forward and jumped right back into the studio recording new material.
