My name is Mikey LP and I am a hardworking, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and session player, music teacher, and an avid performer. I have sung my whole life, performed in theatre and choir since I was little, as a solo guitarist & vocalist for 20 years, a pianist, drummer, and bassist about a decade. Some years back, a friend started calling me LP... I dug it, made it my stage name, added a fidora to show attire and found a visual aesthetic to compliment my music.
I have worked with many professional and well known: original, tribute and cover bands in Northern Califonia, Utah and Texas... credits include: Broken Iris, Sages, Trackfighter, The Ghost Town Rebellion, Lithium, The Alex Vincent Band, The Heartbreak Time Machine, Muad'Dib, Severity, The Rosemont Scandal, Sex on Sunday, I Scream on Sundae, One Leg Chuck & The Hussle, The Space Rockers, Electric Circus, Deep Cuts, Screwloose & of course all of my previous incarnations of LP Sessions (LP Session & the Players, LP Sessions' Salt Lake Trio, LP Sessions' Duo, LP Sessions Trio, and LP Sessions' Symphunknik.) Which have now evolved into Mikey LP & The Krooks.
Over the years I have been blessed to work with some of the industries top professionals including members of Tesla, Cake, Stoneground, and Die Trying to name a few and to share showbills with other amazing artists like: Jacoby Shaddux (Papa Roach), The Frank Hannon Band, Orgy, Flyleaf, The Ataris, Fishbone, Dance Gavin Dance, MC RUT, Dayshell, Black Map, Adelita's Way, Some Fear None, The Nickel Slots, Cemetery Sun, The Infamous Swanks, Broken Stems, Pacific Skyway, Arden Park Roots, Element of Soul, Riotmaker, Breva, Life in 24 Frames, Tell The Wolves, Once an Empire, Madison Ave., Control, The Alpha Complex, Surviving The Era, They Went Ghost, Heat of Damage,The Lonely Kings, Drop Dead Red, Poindexter, The Three Way, Defyant Circle, So Called Tragedy, Aurora, A Single Second, Prieta, Frank Jordan, Quitter, Mister Metaphor, Musical Charis, Sea Legs, Sunday School, Playboy School, Via Madrone, Killing Budah, Hans Eberbach, Chuck Regan, Joe Kye, James Cavern, Adam Roth, Shannon Curtis, Reggie Ginn, and Justin Farren to name a bunch.
I spent fall of 2009- summer of 2010 living and working in Salt Lake City playing at many venues, restaurants, and private parties. In April 2010 after a year of hard work I released my third and best solo album "Walk With Me." The music is fairly accesible to all ages, tastes and persuasions with some innovations to stretch the listeners ears a bit. The experience, is an amalgamation of alternative/rock style with pop song writing and polish that has been influened by jazz, blues, funk, fusion and a touch theatricality.
In July of 2010 I moved back to Sacramento, California to begin rehearsals with my favorite team of players for my follow-up full length album "The Road to Recovery." This album was to be an epic testament to my commitment in music that presents some of the emotional twists and turns of; lost love, the search for truth, and the obstacles we face when trying to reach a goal. It is a progressive/hard rock and experimental album that might kill me trying to finish but will be well worth the journey. We began tracking for the album in May of 2011 and have been in and out of the studio every few months ever since, chipping away at the slow but focused project. This album has no projected release date which is how we prefer it to remain until we feel it has reached it's maximum potential. We have however, played a few specialized live showings of the albums' material and were very pleased with the response.
In June of 2012 I relocated to Austin, Texas for a year and half long stint with a cover band company called "Stargazer Productions" and began performing all over Texas... which for me was un-charted territory.
In 2013 I started re-focusing my solo efforts on a a new body of work which I titled "Under The Overpass." Since then I have moved back into Sacramento, performed countless shows with several acts, recorded the full length album with Red Light Recordings out in Salt Lake City and taken on many gigs great new gigs with a revolving line up of top notch players that I now call "The Krooks'. We are gearing up now to do this CD release Party in December of 2016.
I also play a wide covers from classics like Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong and the Beatles to contemporaries like Death Cab for Cutie, Minus the Bear, John Mayer, and many in between.
I give lessons, do studio work, play; weddings, parties, clubs, cafe's. Come by and see ... I promise you'll enjoy what you experience.
