The Portland, Maine rock trio Brenda is a staple indie act in the
thriving, yet nebulous northern New England music scene. In 2008,
Joshua Loring and Peet Chamberlain formed Brenda in Portland after the dissolution of their previous band, Cult Maze. With the addition of drummer DJ Moore, Brenda spent the next two years cultivating their sound in the studio and on stage, performing with prominent acts such as Dr. Dog, The Cave Singers and Maps and Atlases. In late 2009, Brenda recruited Peet and Josh’s former Cult Maze band mate (and current Metal Feathers front man) Jay Lobely to produce their debut LP, Silver Tower. The result is a soaring, tightly knit rock album with no shortage of captivating hooks and infectious melodies. With a sound firmly rooted in ‘90s lo-fi and alt-pop, Brenda’s catchy and straightforward approach to songwriting and production evokes the work of Robert Pollard and Superchunk. Silver Tower will be released on Mckeenstreet Music in June of 2010.
