Cory Hawthorne is a Western Canadian-based singer, songwriter and guitarist. Describing his style as “North Americana Alt-Country”, his songs are marked by the influences of Hank Williams Sr., Gram Parsons, Dwight Yoakam, the Beatles and AC/DC. Honing his craft while growing up in the heavy metal suburbs of Burnaby and Coquitlam and becoming a veteran of the Vancouver music scene, his musical experiences range from receiving a degree in classical music from the University of British Columbia to having played with the godfather of Canadian hardcore punk rock, DOA's Joe Keithley, who calls Cory "A super talented multi-talent on the guitar", and all points in between.
With his love of classic country and rock, and inspired by the guitar slinging of James Burton, Albert Lee and Brad Paisley, Cory is an accomplished, some would say extroverted, guitarist who loves to entertain with the six-string. Equally at home chicken pickin’ as he is shredding, Cory isn’t afraid of fusing Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen rock chaos into his twangy, Jerry Reed and Don Rich-inspired licks. As a studio session guitarist he has played on many different recordings in many different genres.
With the release of his debut solo album, "The King of the Broken Hearts", described by one music journalist as a "a treat from beginning to end", he has blended the best of his country and rock influences into a combination that is equal parts big twangy guitars, soulful vocals, rocking drums, unforgettable melodies, hooks, and honest, heartfelt lyrics. The album, featuring all original songs by Cory, was nominated for a 2012 BC Country Music Association “Album of the Year” award and has been enjoying airplay in Canada, Europe and in the US.
A dynamic veteran performer who loves the stage, Cory makes it his mission to leave audiences both entertained and uplifted and there is no doubt that he will be spending the rest of his life singing, writing songs, playing guitar and spreading the good vibes of music to anyone who will listen.
