Reelfoot was founded by keyboardist Ted Paletta and guitarist Andrew Allen while enrolled in a geology class at the University of Missouri-Columbia. The name ‘Reelfoot’ stems from a term describing a fault line / empty ocean basin that formed directly under the central Midwest after Pangea split apart into seven continents (the Reelfoot Rift). Comprised of St. Louis natives Ted Paletta, Andrew Allen, Jamie Brungard, and Sam Niehaus, Reelfoot’s sound explores a combination of innovated jams, high energy funk, eclectic rock, and booty shakin trance.
The four-piece Jamband has shared bills with artists like Umphrey’s McGee, STS9, Galactic, Yonder Mountain String Band, Gov’t Mule, Les Claypool, Particle, Tea Leaf Green, Family Groove Company, Perpetual Groove, EOTO, Madahoochi, The Station, Speakeasy, Zoogma, Messy Jiverson, and performing at many festivals including Wakarusa 2009 & 2011, Yonder Mountain’s Harvest Music Festival 2011, Tall Tree Lake, and Green Mountain Eco Fest. Reelfoot’s fast growing, loyal grassroot fan base is drawn to their emerging talent and true belief in music. Combining funk, rock, blues, reggae, trance, psychedelia, improv, and compositional genres, the band is highly dedicated to performing unique live perfomances with skillfully crafted improvisation at every show.
Some of the band’s greatest moments include two Midwest tours to Colorado and back in the Summer of ’09, Winter of ’10, and selling out multiple venues including the Old Rock House (STL), The Bridge (Columbia), Mojo’s (Columbia), and Pop’s Blue Moon (STL). However, in their eyes Reelfoot’s greatest achievement was putting on their own Halloween concert in 2010 at a friend’s farm just outside Columbia city limits – performing for more than four hours and drawing more than 500 people. Today, their fan base continues to grow exponentially as well as their passion for creativity.
