I always wanted to be famous. First, I dreamed of being a famous baseball player. Then, I wanted to be in movies. But, one night, when I was with my grandfather, on his deathbed, in the ICU, after having to resuscitate him myself, he turned to me. He wanted me to pursue my most hidden talent. A talent that he even secretly wanted to pursue. Music. Not too long after that, he passed. I picked up my guitar, locked myself in my room for months, and began writing. Forming my first band came quick. DropDean. We partied. Rocked out college bars. Even had a lawyer/manager shop us out to a guy who claimed to be connected with Sony. But, that fell thru. I got real deppressed and escaped back to Vegas. I stopped playing music. Starting working at a major hotel, using whatever hookups I had to make rich people happy. I started using drugs. Even at work. Eventually I met a crooked doctor. I started using pills heavily. Then came heroin. It all went downhill from there. I mixed the pills, heroin, and whatever else I could get ahold of just to get me thru the days. Addiction. Not fun. Very real. I was not on a path of becoming anything I had ever dreamed of. Depression. Nirvana infatuation. Deams of membership to The 27 Club. One night, in my car, hopeless, failure, dead end, 10 bags of heroin...overdose. Peace. Darkness. Then, a voice. "All the times that you thought that you were doing this on your own...I never left." I woke up. Pain. Happy pain. Alive. But, what was that voice? I quit everything cold turkey. Not easy. Very sick. But, alive. I picked up the guitar as therapy. I stopped writting music. And, with no reasonable explanation, I started hearing music. Receiving music. "All the times that you thought that you were doing this on your own...I never left." Who are you. "I made you...follow me." A few months of sobriety went by and I met Lori Mosley. One of the most amazing musicians. Her daughter, Lacy, lead singer of FLYLEAF, and Lacy's husband, Joshua, another amazing musician, befriended me. Joshua baptized me. Shortly after that, I knew He never left. The more I saught Him, the more I realized His grace never left me...never left...neverleft...NEVERLEFT! My name is Dean. I am a son of the Creator of Heaven and earth. And He NEVERLEFT!
