Thomas Kivi is a lyrical folk songwriter from the upper-Midwest. He picks and strums a right-handed guitar upside-down while singing simple and soulful. Based in Minneapolis from 2008-2013, Kivi now lives in St Louis, MO after playing 200+ shows across the U.S., Canada, and Europe, a good majority of them with fellow touring songwriter Sarah Pray.
His full-length Americana debut CRYING CHILD was released in 2011 by St Paul, MN to nationwide radio-play and positive reviews from CMT, Minnesota Public Radio, City Pages, and Pioneer Press, drawing comparisons that range from Townes van Zandt and Bob Dylan, to Bon Iver and Bright Eyes.
In 2012, Kivi and Sarah Pray released their first Kivi & Pray EP: WINTER IN DECATUR--a live recording of the rootsy, harmony-heavy duo in Decatur, GA. THOMAS KIVI & THE IMMIGRANTS was released in 2013--a roots-rock EP that captures the energy and momentum of his live, full-band performances.
Kivi & Pray are currently recording their first studio album as a duo, which will feature stripped-down versions of old songs, unrecorded, and new material. Kivi & Pray plan to release the album and tour in the summer of 2014.
