James began playing the piano at the age of four. At an early age he gained personal access to some of the greats in blues and jazz, learning as a protégée first hand the philosophy, spirit and skill from these legendary artists. He continued in his teens to develop his own compositions and personal style, performing solo and forming bands over next 40 years. He has played venues both large (40,000+) and small intimate clubs as a headliner or with some of best talent around in various genres. His philosophy towards music is simple “ I came from the Beatles generation… where every album was different. I always waited to see what my artist would do...where they went...I trusted them to take me somewhere they discovered. Hendrix, Miles, Muddy, Brubeck, Horowitz…. all of the genres greats...theyexplored life through the music..that is why they were great! I never want any of my records to be the same as the last. Things changes.... so do I.... but all of them (my recordings) strive to be timeless. It's in the pureness of heart of the music... welcoming the listener, to feel real emotions, fresh inventions and rhythms. I strive for melodies that are focused, classic, timeless no matter the genre…I have love to play for live audiences because I know in that moment with them we collaborate together in a way to make a wonderful experience together, an artistic truth we share in time that we both can cherish and remember...Music is a gift ... A gift that needs to be shared.."
