Founded in 2008 as an acoustic duo playing street corners and open mic nights, Sweatband has evolved into an eclectic mix of Rock, Country, Gaelic and even Hip-Hop that has taken the Hallowell music scene by storm. Sweatband lives by the simple principle that live music ought to be fun, and they will go the extra mile to make sure that everyone leaves with a smile on their face.
Sweatband features the all-in lead vocals and pelvis rattling bass of Patrick Colwell, the latest in a long line of Colwells to make an impact on the local music scene. In the past Patrick has played with Archie & Friends and Walter Weymouth, and he continues to perform on occasion with the Colwell Family Band.
Rhythm guitar duties are handled by exciting newcomer and Irish-American Shawn Gallagher. Shawn's sense of humor and passion for a good time are infectious, and his now infamous version of Sir Mix-Alot's "Baby Got Back" has earned him a reputation for his spontaneous and undeniable stage presence.
Bob LaPlante joined the group in the Spring of 2010 and has been holding it down with impeccable groove and timing on everything from Hammer of the God's Rock & Roll to smooth country blues shuffles. Prior to Sweatband, Bob drummed for the Portland rock group Dirty Sky and has toured with bands from Maine to Nashville.
Newest member Ryan Reed provides a spark at lead guitar that has taken the band to a whole new level. In addition to his fiery lead work, Ryan also provides sweet high harmonies and occasional lead vocals. Prior to joining Sweatband, Ryan played with Archie & Friends and Walter Weymouth.
DJ G (AKA Garrett Murray) is the official DJ of Sweatband and has collaborated with the band in live settings with spectacular results. DJ G has been DJ'ing for four years and has a true passion for spinning music and enjoys making people dance every chance he gets. According to Colwell "DJ G is the X factor that can turn a good show into a GREAT show".
