Apex clique / Bio

Apex Clique is Houston hip hop meets mainstream. With influences from top 40 superstars to local legends, Apex Clique has a varied performance most tailored for the club scene. Seeking to bring a mainstream sound to Houston, Apex Clique music is more up tempo and edgy than traditional Houston rap.
After its creation in 2008, Apex Clique has produced “The Come Up” mix tape, which had great success locally, Apex Clique sold over 2000 copies of their mix tape and using the buzz generated performed at over 20 venues in a two month period promoting “The Come Up” album, released February 2011 and is now having success on I tunes, e music and many other online music stores.
Apex Clique is an emerging Hip Hop, rap group native to Houston Texas. Consisting of its two core members J.A.Y, born Fredrick Williams and Monsta, born Leon Hamilton; Apex Clique has taken their live performance and southern melodies to countless stages and venues opening for established acts such as E.S.G and Cash money recording artist Just Brittany, as well as shows with guest appearances by Bun B and Sheila Jackson Lee. Jay and Monsta are no strangers to the recording booth, with experience in recording and engineering.
Jay was influenced heavily by the late 90’s and early millennium southern rap artists such as Slim Thug, Master P and Scarface. Jay, being impressed by these artists go getter attitude, allowed their positive traits to spill over into his own music and life, eventually ending in Jay taking the lead on hooks and anthems produced by the group. Monsta was more captivated by the gangster rap of the era, Ghetto boys, Mr. Magic and Mystikal, resulting in a more ominous tone of music from the big man (Scary Right?). Both Monsta and Jay were followers of the national Super Stars, 2 Pac and Biggie Smalls. This Combined taste in music, coupled with life experiences has given Apex Clique a unique style of club anthem meets street anthem with lyrics that have meaning and depth.
