Philadelphia rocker Greg Sover will release his debut album SONGS OF A RENEGADE in August, 2016. It has been a long time coming for the singer, songwriter and stellar guitarist.
Sover became fascinated with the guitar at age 13. His father taught him the French song “La Maladie d’Amour” and Sover took it from there, teaching himself guitar, songwriting and finally singing.
Sover says his music doesn’t fit into one particular genre. It includes elements of “blues and rock with a dash of everything else.” He has been influenced by artists in multiple genres including Bob Marley, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Dwight Yoakam, Jay-Z, Gary Moore (Thin Lizzy and others) and Jimi Hendrix.
Sover chose the album title SONGS OF A RENEGADE because “I believe a renegade is somebody who is faced with obstacles and still overcomes them… in a positive way.” Songwriting has been an outlet for him to express his struggles and passions and he believes that his songs resonate with his fans.
Sover first gave notice that he is on track to be the next big thing out of Philly when he won the 2015 Hard Rock Rising competition at Philadelphia’s Hard Rock Cafe. His development is due in large part to his band, which is comprised of three Philly veterans with extensive resumes – bassist and album co-producer Garry Lee, guitarist Allen James and drummer Tom Walling. The three are best known as Deb Callahan’s solid backing band and their cohesiveness as a unit enabled Sover to develop as an artist and take his music to the next level.
“I needed pro-level musicians,” said Sover. “They definitely added the Philly touch that I wanted. I definitely learned control more than anything. I used to play with no dimensions, no dynamics. It was always straight up, straight loud guitar. With these guys I learned dynamics.”
Now that SONGS OF A RENEGADE is complete Sover looks forward to performing more shows and expanding his fan base outside the Philadelphia area.
“I'm looking forward to the new venues and the new places I’ll get to play promoting this album” said Sover. “I plan on going all over the place. I'm pretty excited about that.”
Sover will have several CD Release shows, beginning August 13 at Steel City in Phoenixville, PA.
