The Joy Evelation is an Australian rock band, formed in Perth, Western Australia in 2011. It was founded by Mia Joy (vocals & guitars) and Rob Garnett (guitars) originally as a recording project following the dissolution of their previous bands. Adam Rando who was recording drums in the studio with his band, Rapidfire who at the time was being engineered at RGM (Rob Garnett Music). Adam was approached to play on the project, and subsequently left Rapidfire for the drumming position with the JE. At this time the bass duties were done by Rob G, however also leaving a band Brenton Scambler was invited into the line up completing the outfit.
The group originally began as Mia Joy and Blue Cargo that began playing Blues/ Rock and after a successful start they developed their own spin on the Rock Industry. The name was changed to Revelation and ended up as Evelation as a described “Elevated Revelation”, the name remains today.
Attention quickly focused on the band and they were asked to support ZZTop in Perth, 23rd April 2011. Rose Tattoo were to complete the line up and the show turned a massive crowd and was a great step up for the band.
July 30th 2011 saw a release of the first self-titled EP, The Joy Evelation, launched at Players Bar, Mandurah Western Australia and its success was immediate, both selling out the EP and excellent sales followed on itunes.
August 31st 2012 saw release of the second EP, nicknamed “The Red Album” that was launched at The Norfolk Hotel, Fremantle Western Australia. The band did some heavy promotion and played live on Perths biggest radio station 96fm, which attributed to the show being sold out.
2012 proved to be a frantic year for the band, travelling to the US to play at the iconic Whisky A Go Go on Sunset, LA California. This show followed with a performance at The Viper Room that Rob claimed as the best gig the band has ever played. Remaining in the US the band finished the tour playing the Good Hurt Bar, Venice Beach, California before returning to Perth for a short break before returning back into the studio to work on the debut album.
2013 found the band going full time in the studio while fitting in a few gigs to keep everything tight. Mia, Rob and Brenton were asked to play some acoustic shows and played 2 shows with Australian Rock icons Ian Moss (Cold Chisel) and Daryl Braithwaite from Australian and International acclaim. The band played several more gigs in 2013, headlining the Kwinana Festival in October.
2014 started by playing a charity gig for Relay for life, in support for The Australian Cancer Council. The band enjoying presenting some new material from the debut cd REVELATION to be released May 24th 2014 at the Fly By Night Musicians Club, Fremantle Western Australia.
The Album is a culmination of 2 years recording and contains 10 tracks the band chose as a great CD, The album was engineered by Rob Garnett at RGM and co-produced with Mia Joy who also wrote the music and lyrics for the album.
