Ruby Velle & The Soulphonics have their roots embeded in the rich sound and history of Georgia music beginning with early 50's and 60's R&B that became so well known around the world. By producing 45 rpm singles, performing countless gigs since 2005, the band is steadily increasing an awareness of genuine rhythm and blues music that exists today. The band packs local clubs and festivals with their own soul music that is written, recorded, and performed in Atlanta. Named by Creative Loafing as Atlanta's best soul band in 2010 and 2011, Ruby Velle & The Soulphonics are a staple to the Atlanta music scene.
In 2010 the band released 2 singles, "Feet On The Ground" and "Heartlite," with Element Records on vinyl, digital and also compilation CD from Element called "Groove & Soul." The vinyl records have been distributed and sold world-wide through various outlets, and the songs themselves have been licensed for use on other compilations including the appearance of "Heartlite" on a June 2010 compilation release from UK label Acid Jazz as well as placement in a scene from a 2012 feature length movie release called "Tony Tango." Other recent accolades include an interview with Ruby Velle and MTVdesi from Thursday, May 26, 2011, and the b-side from the "Heartlite" single called "The Man Says" was featured on the popular 'Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show' on Feb 5th, 2011 on BBC6 Radio!
The group is putting the final touches on a full length debut album to be released in mid 2012 on Element Records. Finally, the group will begin touring overseas and the US in 2012.
Ruby Velle & The Soulphonics are a modern R&B group based out of Atlanta, GA, and have been a slick addition to the local Atlanta scene since early 2008 (although formed in 2006). Lead female vocalist Ruby Velle, is backed by a solid lineup, including a three piece horn section (trumpet, baritone sax, tenor sax) and rhythm section (B3 organ/keys, electric guitar, bass and drums).
