The Mighty High Band was formed in the Fall of 2008 with the intention of focusing on Jerry Garcia's other bands. The members of Mighty High were in other Grateful Dead cover bands through the years, but there are already many in Colorado so it was hard to be noticed in the pack. At the time, there were no other bands focusing on Jerry’s other projects, so they decided to form The Mighty High Band to fill that void. The Mighty High Band is the only band in Colorado that focuses solely on Jerry Garcia’s other projects outside of the Grateful Dead.
Jerry Garcia, best known for his role as the leader of the Grateful Dead, was a musician’s musician. He loved to play music and he loved great songwriting. He had other bands outside of the Grateful Dead that focused on playing great songs that the Grateful Dead did not play. The Mighty High Band plays all those great tunes that Jerry played in the Jerry Garcia Band, Legion of Mary, Garcia and Saunders and Reconstruction. The song selections from those bands cover a broad spectrum of musical genres including blues, rock, reggae, traditional folk, Motown, country, and R&B.
Many people that see The Mighty High Band have no idea the songs played come from Jerry Garcia's other musical projects. The wide variety of songs will please not only the Deadheads, but everyone else that likes to go out and dance to some great tunes.
Every performance played is guaranteed to get the crowd feeling good and dancing. The Mighty High Band and its members have shared the stage with bands/musicians such as :Bloodkin, Widespread Panic, Shakedown Street, the Dyrty Byrds, the Sam Holt Band, Max Creek, Dead Floyd, Banyan, Steve Kimock, Damon Wood and Harmonious Junk, Great American Taxi, Jaden Carlson, The Motet, George Clinton, Mike Gordon(Phish), Tori Pater, Leftover Salmon, Eric McFadden, Steve Molitz(Particle), JoJo Herman(widespread Panic), the Fox street All-stars, The Congress, Melvin Seals(Jerry Garcia Band), New Riders of the Purple Sage, ray White(Frank Zappa), Austin young, Oakhurst, The Zimmermans, Dewey Paul Band, Arnie Green, American Beauty.....
