Music has always been an integral part of Aisha J. Lewis’s life, and she began using her musical gifts to serve God at an early age. Growing up, she sang in her church youth choir, and later was called to serve as the church organist. Although she plays several instruments including piano, organ, cello, tenor mandola, tenor guitar, taiko drums, tambourine, and handbells, it’s the emergence of her rich, warm, melodious alto voice that has given new direction to her life, and allows her to share her personal experience with the Lord in her gospel ministry. She is known for her heartfelt style, and her ability to create and blend unique melodies into her singing, whether it’s traditional or contemporary gospel. As she states, “I sing the melody I feel as the spirit moves me. This may result in the listener hearing a more familiar tune mixed with a tune completely of its own structure. I believe you have to get underneath the song and sing through it, in order to deliver its message. Messages through music can take on various shapes, and having the freedom to sing as I’m moved allows me to ensure I can deliver the message God has placed within me.”
Aisha has been featured twice on “Bobby Jones Presents” Gospel Artist Showcase, and has performed for several gospel legends including Dr. Edwin Hawkins, Bishop Walter Hawkins, Richard Smallwood, Donald Lawrence, Babbie Mason, and with Bishop Leonard Scott. She was a 2008 Triad Idol Finalist, and has been featured in programs, festivals, and gospel showcases across the country. Her debut CD, “Aisha J. Lewis – A Spiritual Journey: Through The Past And Present”, was released in April 2009, and is a testament of her dedication and commitment to following the path God has provided.
