Rick Matle / Bio

Influenced in his formative years by classic rockers Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Pete Townshend and Santana. Jazz guitar greats Grant Green, Kenny Burrell and Pat Metheny would be an influence later as Rick studied jazz and composing at Oakland University, graduating in 1986. Rick performs live as a freelance musician and as a band leader playing blues, jazz and classic rock primarily. His work on the 7-string guitar with vocalist Sheila Landis is influenced by Joe Pass and Charlie Hunter and is notable for it's full bass and guitar sound. Rick has produced 9 CD's as a co-leader with Landis since the early 90's earning a Detroit Music Award for "Outstanding Jazz Composer" in 1999. Rick has two solo CD releases, "Ears Wide Shut" a late 60's rock influenced instrumental outing and "Windows of the World" a colorful World Music release with Folk, Brazilian and Middle Eastern influences . Following the release of "Window of the World", Rick was voted by the Detroit Music Awards as the "Outstanding World Music Composer" in 2006 and 2007.
