It all started back in 2003 when Nick, Craig and Rob started jamming. At the time, none of us played bass so we just messed about with 3 guitars. After a while Nick parted with some cash and took up the bass guitar. At the same time Johann Muller organised an old drum kit, and so an infant band was formed, with the exception of vocals... no one was keen. After some contemplation Rob put up a tentative hand and bought a mic.
By 2005 five original songs had been written, with a couple of covers to back them up.
Next mission, to play live, but first this band needed a name. No clear favourite was available so we decided to each come up with 3 options and bring them to the next band practice. Hands down Odium was the winner. With an identity and a playlist we needed a gig, which happened at a dodgy little pub outside Brakpan, No great shakes but at least it was a start.
2006: The year it ended. Rob got married and Nick invaded the UK. No more Odium until Jan 2009 when Nick returned to SA, Joe however had gone MIA. Enter Greg Witt. Within a few months our songs were redone and were better than ever.
That same year we entered the Strum Sessions Battle of the Bands. We progressed to the finals, and although we never won, a lot was gained from the competition. Sadly, by the end of 2009, Greg decided to leave the band.
2010: The year it ended again. Although Rob, Nick and Craig carried on jamming, the band as such was dead. By the end of 2010 we decided to take on a new venture, record our songs. On 23rd December 2010 we re-recruited Greg to record Fear, which quickly jumped to 29 on the JHB ReverbNation metal charts.
Our plan for 2011 was to carry on recording. Steve joined us in January and went straight into the recording of Paranoid Dream – topping at 25 on the chart. Demockery went though another transformation, becoming even better and our third recorded song.
