David Wells grew up in the deep southern town of Mobile, Alabama where he struggled to breath in the stale muggy air of old southern money and myths. Finding a way to fit in was not easy for David but he found refuge in music.
After a short stint studying classical guitar, David wandered around the southeast enriching himself with every kind of music he could absorb. From old time string bands to power pop, he learned the nuances and embellishments that make all forms of music great. In the songs that he crafts he tries to pull from all of these influences drawing in his audience with his smooth voice and sardonic lyrics while playing familiar yet untold melodies rich in the textures of such artist as Otis Redding, Curtis Mayfield, The Band, Nick Drake and Johnny Cash.
David Wells is now nestled in Nashville Tennessee finding songs of joy and musicians of merriment having just finished his first album "After You Left". In between his non-profit pursuits and organic farming, he managed to put together a great ensemble of engineers and musicians. "It was a pleasure to play with so many great musicians that have very different styles." They all contributed at different times, drawing from their own inspirations to help create as a musical collaboration he likes to call the High Water Mark.
